A VCD (video compact disc) contains audio and video data files for playback in the same way as a DVD, but without the same level of image resolution and sound quality. The MPEG-format video resolution on a VCD is similar to a VHS cassette tape. VCDs will play on computers with a CD-ROM drive and most DVD players.
Video files can be burned to a VCD using Windows Media Player, which is the default software program on Microsoft operating systems for playback and recording of CDs. If you don't have a DVD burner but want to make video discs, burning VCDs is a viable solution.
